Some 140 members and guests enjoyed the wine, provided at cost by Tuggy Meyer’s Huntsworth Wine, the lovely canapés from The Shed (the restaurant on Palace Gardens Terrace which old-timers remember as The Ark), and the jazz band Jam Division, lead by award-winning percussionist Isaac Harari.
In his speech, the CTRAA chairman Charles Penney highlighted the fact that two of the attending members have a combined age of 200 years: Rolf Christophersen, who turns 102 in November, and Bettie Griffiths (as always wearing her pink beret), who turned 99 in April.
Notable guests were two of our ward councillors, Catherine Faulks and Lloyd North, as well as former MP Victoria Borwick. Among the regular members were our former councillor of 24 years, Robert Freeman, together with his wife Liz.
Our main sponsor was as usual Knight Frank, and we also want to thank the vicar, Mother Emma Dinwiddy Smith, and Leonora Service, her PA and manager of St Mary Abbots’ communications and events – not just for the use of the fantastic garden, but also for their obviously good vertical connections that ensured perfect weather…
